The Inferno Swing series

Upon moving to San Francisco in 1997, I began photographing a romantic side of the swing dance scene at the Inferno Lounge. The big band music, retro costumes, and lively dancing intoxicated my senses. My focus was to capture the amazing energy of movement and sound, as well as nostalgia for the past. The images are shot in low light with a Hasselblad medium format camera and black and white negative film. Color and texture were added digitally to the scanned negatives to create ethereal images that compliment my subject matter.
